Listed below are the training courses that we currently run.
All of our training is free for our volunteers and carers.

Induction for Carers and FSVs: Day 1To provide participants with an understanding of HFBU, its aims, objectives and services. To give an overview of the issues related to disability.

Induction training for FSVs: Day 2To provide participants with an understanding of the role and responsibilities of an FSV.

Induction Training for Carers: Day 2To provide participants with an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a short break carer.

Child ProtectionTo provide participants with an awareness and knowledge that will help you to keep children safe.

Health and SafetyTo bring participants up to date with Health and Safety knowledge they will need to have when caring for children.

Autism AwarenessTo increase knowledge and understanding of autism to and to understand some of the difficulties autistic people face.

Play SkillsTo learn more about adapting play so any child can participate and enjoy themselves and to understand how children learn through play.

First AidTo bring participants up to date with First Aid knowledge they will need to have when caring for children.

Communication SkillsTo develop an understanding of what constitutes "communication" and gain confidence in communicating with children who have little or no spoken language.

Food HygieneTo bring participants up to date with Food Hygiene knowledge they will need to have when caring for children.

Specific Communication SkillsTo learn more about specific methods of communication such as PECS and Makaton, and why they are used.

Moving and HandlingTo learn how to move a person safely whilst protecting yourself and to learn about relevant legislation and risk assessments.

EpilepsyAn introduction and overview of epilepsy, its management and treatment.

Child developmentAn introduction to the main stages of physical, emotional and intellectual development young children typically go through.
